My Writing Portion
My Start
My topic is revolved around the power industry and what has been done to change it. I seek to know what factors affect the power industry and what changes have already been made in society. In addition, I would like to know some of the statistics and/or new sources of power that have come about. This information will be very valuable when I am working with an energy business to come up with a new and more efficient way of generating electricity. I will put these other factors that I look up into perspective when I work with different energy companies in the future. This information also gives me knowledge when I go doing other projects and research in college.
What I knew
I know that the power industry is very big and broad with all the ways and resources that can be used in generation. There is hydro power, solar power, wind power, and much more. There is a lot more to just the resources of the energy industry. There are the economic aspects of the power industry like the price of electricity and the ways of selling it. There are many businesses that assist in the power industry. I am currently in a mentorship with one of the government owned energy businesses the Army Corp. of Engineers. I am aware of how a generator usually runs. It usually has an input of mechanical energy and an output of electrical energy. There are other ways, but the mechanical to electrical energy transfer is usually the most common. I know that energy is growing and that there could be a numerous amount of advancements and improvements done to make generating more efficient. I find interest in the transfer of energy. I am not so aware of the other changes involved with the economy, however I expect there to be major advancements and higher demand in the future, because the world of technology (and energy usage) is growing constantly, and there has to be enough energy to help the world stay caught up with technology. I find that my research will be mainly based on the advancements and the changes of the energy market, such as price changes and input price. This will show the importance and innovation of energy in society today as well as in the past. I assume that energy is already very important since we use technology very often in everyday life.
My search
My journey started at my mentor-ship. My essential question does not just entail the different resources used to generate electricity, but also about the marketing behind the generator idea. Electricity has been made into a product of which is very valuable in today’s society, and I have researched about the most recent history that has brought the United States and even the world to where it is now in the power market. Numerous power industries are constantly trying their best to sell their product at the best price, but it seems that in the past there were limitations to how high the price may go, and even how low it may be. This affected power investors, customers, and many people who found financial interest in the power market.
What I discovered
The power market has developed along side the economics in governmental control, such as customer choice and industry production. Different price limits and district boundaries have occurred in the past that forced customers to pay for a certain business, and the business could only produce the district it was assigned. I have learned that the electricity of today is going to grow into something bigger tomorrow as there are current and even past efforts that have been put forth to increase the use of renewable resources and decrease the scarce resources. I hope to see more sustainable appliances and more efficient energy generation in the near future, but in addition I hope to play a role in the development of the power industry. Now I conclude that in the past, the power industry started low using resources like coal and fossil fuels to power our cities, but as time progressed sustainability and renewable resource use became a goal for our power industries, and because of it we have new products today that only begin to show what can be most efficient in the world of resources.
